Here are some Declaim Competition contestants on stage at Colt Andrews School. They memorize classic patriotic poems and speeches for Memorial Day.
a first place winner--the Gettysburg Address
From the Prov. Journal Bulletin--this first place winner went all the way to the State House!
Students research poems and speeches to find one that they especially like. They have to memorize it and know what the circumstances were surrounding that speech so that they can say it with feeling, fluently.
This is a big screen the kids painted and they put their faces through and march that front leg!
The Veterans always come.
The Children's Memorial Day Program is the Friday before Memorial Day. Here the whole school gets to hear the Declaim Competition winners, see the best of the "Veterans in my Family" research project posters, and see the great artwork pertaining to themes patriotic.
He found out his uncle was a veteran, made a poster in his honor and marched with it!
Here is a great History Kids division of the Memorial Day Parade.
This is the year the kids painted "Old Ironsides" for one of the symbols. It went on a Dad's truck after we made a float out of the truck!
